The modern world is remarkably good at producing things—and remarkably bad at helping us decide which things are actually worth having.
So the Mercantile has a simple purpose.
We look for good books, good coffee, useful tools, well-made household goods, curious objects, gifts with character, and things that seem to have survived from a more interesting age.
Some will be new. Some decidedly old-fashioned. Some practical. Some unnecessary but delightful—which, as Chesterton might remind us, can be a perfectly respectable reason for their existence.
We aren’t trying to build the world’s largest store.
We’d rather build an interesting one.

There’s already enough stuff in the world.
So we’ll try to follow one rule:
Don’t recommend it merely because someone will pay us to sell it. Recommend it because we’d tell a friend about it anyway.
