“Let us walk in the light of the Lord.”
The prophet does not suggest we invent the light; he invites us to walk in it. Modern man prefers to manufacture illumination — electric certainty, moral self-confidence, intellectual fireworks. Yet Isaiah speaks of something older and steadier: a mountain prepared by God, not engineered by men.
The psalmist longs for the courts of the Lord not because they are convenient, but because they are true. “Better one day in thy courts above thousands.” We spend thousands of days arranging our own importance; heaven requires only one honest step upward.
And Saint Paul speaks bluntly: “The night is passed.” Not will pass — is passed. Christianity is not a philosophy of gloom; it is the announcement that dawn has already begun. The only tragedy is a man who refuses to wake.
Chesterton once laughed at castles in the clouds. A cloud-castle is charming until one attempts to live in it. God, by contrast, builds mountains — solid enough for nations to climb.
The Christian life is not escapism; it is ascent. Not fantasy, but pilgrimage. We rise, we walk, we sing — and in walking toward God, we discover the world itself growing luminous.
The armor of light is not heavy. It is only bright.
