Good morning from Chesterton Radio.
Today on Daybreak, the weather turns deadly in the wonderfully atmospheric Midweek Theatre mystery The Weather for Murder—a Chesterton Radio favorite that has now been heard more than 110,000 times.
Then we travel to 79 Wistful Vista, where Fibber McGee and Molly welcome a visitor uniquely qualified to make an already disorderly household even less sensible: Gracie Allen. It’s a delightful glimpse of the Golden Age of Radio as one great shared neighborhood, where familiar voices could wander through one another’s worlds.
And in today’s Reading Chesterton, we turn to one of G. K. Chesterton’s small masterpieces, “A Piece of Chalk.” A forgotten stick of white chalk, a sheet of brown paper, and a walk through the English countryside become a meditation on goodness, imagination, and the astonishing world hiding inside ordinary things.
That becomes our thread for this Wednesday morning: what happens when imagination transforms the familiar. Weather becomes menace. Domestic life becomes comedy. And a piece of chalk becomes philosophy.
Pour the coffee, turn up the wireless, and join us for Daybreak.
