Something rather wonderful happened today.
My wife works at Benedictine College here in Atchison. The telephone rang, and on the other end was someone looking for the mailing address of The Little Station on Commercial Street.
She wanted to send us a contribution.
There was only one small problem.
The Little Station on Commercial Street doesn’t actually have a mailing address.
At least, not quite.
The Little Station is the place from which we imagine Chesterton Radio broadcasting: a little storefront somewhere along Commercial Street in Atchison, Kansas, with a light over the door, a microphone inside, books piled everywhere, an old radio playing in the corner, and perhaps G. K. Chesterton looking rather suspiciously at whatever piece of modern technology we have just installed.
But although the Little Station is partly imaginary, Chesterton Radio is very real.
The programs are real. The 24-hour stream is real. The servers and production costs are certainly real. And, most importantly, the listeners scattered across America, Britain, and the rest of the world are very real indeed.
So my wife gave our caller the mailing address for our business.
And it occurred to me that perhaps we ought to give it to everyone.
If you’d like to mail a contribution
For those who prefer to support Chesterton Radio the old-fashioned way, you are very welcome to send a check.
Please make your check payable to:
Korzenecki & Company, LLC
or
Paul Korzenecki
You may write “Chesterton Radio” in the memo line.
Mail it to:
Korzenecki & Company, LLC
621 Kansas Avenue, Box 325
Atchison, KS 66002
And that’s it.
No QR code required.
No app.
No password.
Just an envelope, a stamp, and the United States Postal Service.
Somehow, that seems entirely appropriate for Chesterton Radio.
Or support the station online
If stamps aren’t your thing, the easiest way to support Chesterton Radio online is by becoming a supporting subscriber:
Supporting subscribers help us keep The Open Door, our 24-hour stream, on the air and help make possible the original programs, readings, radio dramas, essays, mysteries, daily features, and other curious things that keep emerging from the Little Station.
But there is something else worth saying.
You don’t have to send us money to be part of Chesterton Radio.
Listening matters.
Sharing one of our programs with a friend matters.
Leaving a comment matters.
Telling somebody, “You might like this strange little radio station I found in Atchison, Kansas,” matters.
Every one of those things helps.
But if you have been listening for a while and have wondered whether there is a way to put something in the collection plate for the Little Station, now you know.
There is.
And to the listener who took the trouble to telephone Benedictine College today simply because she wanted to find us and send something through the mail:
Thank you.
You made our day.
And you reminded us that perhaps the Little Station on Commercial Street isn’t entirely imaginary after all.
As long as someone is listening, the light is on above the door.
