Every town ought to have one place where the lights are still on.
Not the brightest lights. Not the loudest. Just a warm window on an ordinary street where someone is always inside, ready to welcome whoever happens to wander through the door.
For us, that place is the little station on Commercial Street in Atchison, Kansas.
It may exist partly in imagination and partly in reality, but every day it grows a little more real.
It is where Morning Prayer begins before dawn.
It is where Father Brown quietly untangles another impossible mystery.
It is where the old announcer introduces another broadcast rescued from the golden age of radio.
It is where forgotten books are opened again, great conversations continue, and stories that deserved another audience are heard once more.
Some evenings the station is lively.
Some evenings it is quiet.
Sometimes there is music.
Sometimes there is laughter.
Sometimes there is only the comforting sound of a room where someone has remembered to leave the light on.
That has always been the purpose of Chesterton Radio.
Not merely to preserve old recordings.
Not merely to produce new ones.
But to create a place people enjoy returning to.
A place where wonder is still considered practical.
A place where conversation matters more than outrage.
A place where faith, literature, history, imagination, and good humor are all welcome around the same table.
Over the past year that little station has grown beyond anything I expected.
Every week brings new listeners from around the world.
Together we’ve explored classic radio dramas, discovered forgotten books, shared Morning Prayer, created entirely new Father Brown mysteries, wandered into the Merry Paradox, listened to deep dives, and spent countless evenings simply enjoying the companionship of good stories.
Many of you have written to say that Chesterton Radio has become part of your daily routine.
Some listen while making breakfast.
Some during long drives.
Some before going to sleep.
Some simply appreciate knowing there is still a place on the internet that isn’t trying to shout louder than everyone else.
Those messages mean more than you know.
Chesterton Radio has always tried to give first and ask second.
Nearly everything we create remains freely available.
The stories.
The podcasts.
The Morning Prayer.
The livestream.
The essays.
The originals.
The classics.
I have never wanted this to become a place where the best things disappear behind a paywall.
Instead, I’ve hoped that those who find value here might choose to help keep the station on the air for everyone else.
To make that easier, I’ve created several new supporter levels on Buy Me a Coffee.
Each one represents a different way of helping keep the little station running.
Lamp Lighter
The first light of the evening.
The listener who helps make sure someone will always find the station glowing in the distance.
Station Keeper
The dependable friend who helps keep the microphones working, the shelves dusted, and the front door open.
Producer’s Circle
Those whose generosity helps create new stories, podcasts, and broadcasts for listeners everywhere.
Founder’s Circle
Supporters helping build not merely today’s programming, but the future of Chesterton Radio itself.
Steward’s Circle
Those who see this as something worth preserving for years to come and help ensure it continues to grow.
Founding Steward
A one-time lifetime membership for those who wish to make a lasting investment in the future of the station and become part of its story from these early days.
None of these are exclusive clubs.
They’re simply different ways of saying:
“I want this little station to remain on the air.”
Your support helps pay for the countless practical things that make Chesterton Radio possible:
Audio restoration and production
Hosting and streaming services
Research and writing
Original fiction and Father Brown mysteries
Morning Prayer each day
Deep-dive podcasts and commentary
Website and publishing costs
The continuing expansion of the Chesterton Radio world
Every contribution—large or small—helps another story get written.
Another broadcast restored.
Another prayer shared.
Another listener welcomed through the door.
If you’re unable to support financially, please don’t feel any obligation.
Simply listening, sharing an episode with a friend, leaving a comment, or recommending Chesterton Radio to someone else is a tremendous gift.
You are already part of what makes this place special.
But if you’ve ever thought,
“I’d like to help keep this going,”
this is now an easy way to do exactly that.
Because in the end, every radio station has a transmitter.
Ours just happens to be something rather unusual.
It is powered by listeners.
People who believe there should still be places where stories are told slowly...
where old voices are allowed to speak again...
where good books are opened...
where mysteries are solved...
where prayer is offered...
where laughter is welcomed...
and where, no matter how late the hour becomes, someone remembers to leave the light on.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you for your friendship.
And thank you for helping keep the little station on Commercial Street alive.
The door is open.
The light is on.
We’ll save you a chair.
