Ryan has a theory.
Football is basically choreography.
There are formations. Timing. Coordinated movement. Everyone has to know where they’re supposed to be and when they’re supposed to get there.
Maggie points out one small difference:
“With tackling.”
Ryan prefers “aggressive choreography.”
Unfortunately for Ryan, there happens to be an actual dancer in the Little Station.
Tall Girl has heard enough.
“Show me a pirouette.”
For one glorious moment, Ryan applies the full athletic ability of a college football player to classical dance.
It does not go well.
His explanation is straightforward:
“The floor moved.”
Tall Girl has apparently encountered this phenomenon before.
“It does that.”
Today’s strip comes as Footloose opens at Theatre Atchison, with Benedictine College students among the cast. Performances run September 18–20 and again September 25–27.
And Ryan may have accidentally stumbled onto something true. Football players and dancers both depend on balance, timing, coordination, strength, repetition and knowing exactly where their feet are supposed to go.
It’s just that only one of them is normally expected to look graceful doing it.
