There are few things easier than talking about someone who has disappointed us.
Jesus proposes something considerably harder.
“If thy brother shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke him between thee and him alone.” — Matthew 18:15
This week’s Sunday ROOK takes Matthew 18:15–20 into the ordinary world of college life: a broken promise, an irritated friend, and the uncomfortable decision to have the conversation directly.
Christ’s instructions for conflict are remarkably practical. Begin privately. Seek reconciliation rather than victory. Bring others in only when necessary. The purpose is not to win an argument, but to win back a brother.
And perhaps that is why the Gospel ends somewhere unexpected:
“For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Sometimes Christ is present not because there was never a disagreement—but because two people cared enough to repair one.
