Fresh scratches lead Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson inside the abandoned Clerkenwell printing works, where another discovery connects this forgotten shop to the church of the impossible bell.
A footprint.
The same unusual tread.
Someone has walked through both places—and gone to considerable trouble not to be discovered.
But Holmes is interested in something hidden behind one of the old presses.
A cabinet has been moved.
A doorway has been concealed.
And somewhere in the darkness beyond it comes a sound:

Watson has a perfectly reasonable explanation.
“A clock?”
Holmes has only one word in reply.
“No.”
