For some time, there has been a door at Chesterton Radio marked The Chesterton Mercantile.
Today, there is finally something on the other side.
The idea is not to build another enormous online store filled with thousands of things nobody particularly needs. There are quite enough of those already.
We wanted something closer to an old general store.
A place where you might find a good book beside a coffee mug, a radio beside something for the workshop, or some peculiar little object that you didn’t know existed until you saw it.
And we intend to stock it slowly.
The first shelf is particularly close to home.
We’ve opened Chesterton Radio Goods with three things of our own: The Common Room Mug, the Chesterton Radio Classic T-Shirt, and The Open Door Cap.
The last of those carries only the little Open Door emblem. No explanation. Which may be our favorite thing about it.
In time, the Mercantile will grow beyond Chesterton Radio goods. There will be books, things for the Common Room, radios and listening gear, useful things for the home and workshop, gifts, curiosities—and probably a few things that resist classification altogether.
There is one rule.
We would rather recommend a few things worth having than fill the shelves simply because we can.
So, this will be a shop that is never quite finished.
We think that’s part of the fun.
The door is open. Come in.
