Good morning from The Little Station on Commercial Street!
It’s November 5th, and we’re crossing the Atlantic for an entertaining journey through British history, Hollywood glamour, and some of the greatest plays ever brought to radio.
We begin in England with Guy Fawkes Night, the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, and the curious traditions that still light up the British autumn sky.
Then it’s on to Hollywood’s golden age, when Ingrid Bergman brought her talents to the microphone in Gaslight, Notorious, and Intermezzo. We’ll also visit the great stage with Noël Coward’s Our Man in Jamaica, George Kelly’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Craig’s Wife, and Arthur Wing Pinero’s The Second Mrs. Tanqueray.
What makes a great story endure? And why can a voice, a microphone, and a little imagination sometimes accomplish more than a screen full of special effects?
All six featured productions are available in the Chesterton Radio archive.
