Daybreak is on the road! This morning we’re broadcasting from Irving, Texas, near Dallas, and turning the whole show over to the Lone Star State.
We travel from the Alamo to Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston, ride along with Tales of the Texas Rangers, hear a little Texas music, and even encounter Jack Benny dreaming about a racehorse named Texas Sandman. Along the way, we bring the story into present-day Dallas and ask a rather irresistible question: What would G. K. Chesterton make of Texas?
Its enormous scale, fierce local pride, larger-than-life legends, love of independence and deep attachment to place seem made for a Chestertonian conversation about history, home, loyalty—and the stories people tell about themselves.
Pull up a chair. The Little Station on Commercial Street has gone to Texas, and the road broadcast continues tomorrow.
